[series]: Tales of Vesperia
[character]: Estellise Sidos Heurassein
[character history / background]: Info on Estelle herself and the series in general.
[character abilities]: A list of artes she has in game.
[character personality]:

Estellise is a kind young princess from the capital city of the Empire, Zaphias. Though given her status, she was not allowed to leave her castle for her entire life, thus was only fed the information the council had wanted her to know, making her a very naïve young woman. Though while she is naïve, she gained an exquisite amount of knowledge from the books she had read while confined to the castle, thus making her like a walking encyclopedia. To put it shortly, she has zero street smarts, but insanely book smart. Naturally, for someone like herself who finally chose to escape from the castle (with a young man who had just escaped from jail, no less, though he is the best friend of a knight she highly trusts), only having book smarts had its strengths and weaknesses. And while she was not allowed to go into the outside world, she was trained how to fight by knights, therefore she is able to hold her own in battle in case something were to happen to her.

Though she is a noble and the way she speaks gives away her status, she hardly judges anyone else by what they look like or their status. Rather, she does get to know them and make her own judgment based on their personalities. Though sometimes in doing that, she comes to trust someone too easily, and thus is capable of being taken advantage of, which is shown by when she gets kidnapped by Raven and given over to Alexei, since her power of The Child of the Full Moon is what he sought after. But going beyond her status and her power, she wishes to be seen as a person, thus that is why she gets ecstatic when she gets christened “Estelle” by Yuri. While she still introduces herself as ‘Estellise’ to everyone she encounters for the first time, she is more than happy to be called by her nickname, as it shows her that they see her as a person, such as when Rita calls her ‘Estelle’ for the first time.

By the way she speaks, how she postures herself and her manners, many people are able to tell that she is of noble, if not royal birth. It is a natural habit she has, even if she does try her best to hide that fact. Another thing she attempted to hide was the fact that she was able to use her healing powers without the aid of a Blastia. In fact as shown in game, Yuri and Rita figured out that fact the first time she cast a healing spell on each of them, respectively. However, the Blastia is still shown to be needed to learn what are skills and other artes that do not involve the healing element.

Back to her never really being out of the castle, Estelle never really had to make any hard decisions on her own as pretty much all decisions were made for her. And out in the real world all she thought she had to do was heal people and be thanked for it. That was pretty simple, right? However, while on her journey, she was forced to make a few difficult decisions and it took her some time to figure out what to do and what people it would affect. Sometimes the decisions she was forced to make caused her to truly think about what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’. She knows the laws and at many times at the beginning of her journey with her party points out what they were doing was breaking the law. Later in the story she ends up confused when she found out Yuri had murdered two people, however his actions saved numerous lives. With 'law keepers' massacring people for fun and 'criminals' who couldn't turn a blind eye to someone suffering, she could no longer go by the textbook definitions of 'right' and 'wrong'. As her journey continues, she learns that while making choices herself was difficult, she notes that ‘to live means to choose’ meaning that while she was in the castle for the first eighteen years of her life, she never was truly ‘living’.

The choices she made on her journey were those that she was proud to say were her own, and no one ever forced her to make decisions she never wanted to make. In this sense, this was how she grew in the greatest sense during the course of the game. When she had first left the castle, while it was her choice, she was on a mission to inform a friend he was in danger. By the end of the game, she grew because of what she learned about how corrupted people can be, and those that were deemed ‘criminals’ were only titled as such because they were rebelling against those who had been corrupted by power. She also grew in the sense that she learned that the choices she makes weren’t going to please everyone, to her dismay. Sometimes she would make choices that would make people unhappy, such as when she had chosen to fight against Alexei, and Rita protested that decision simply because she reformatted the formula in Estelle’s body to use her lifeforce when she used artes. In the most natural sense, all Estelle wants is people to be happy, and while it was hard for her to learn that lesson, she knew she could never please everyone.

However, some choices she had made (and if her friends allowed those choices to go through) would endanger or cost her her life, including the time she had asked to be killed. Those choices were only made when she realized she was putting her friends lives in danger, thus shows us that she puts others above herself – that she is someone who is truly selfless.

Estelle is also very compassionate and selfless when it comes to helping others. The moment she sees someone injured she will heal them without asking for anything in return. While this is one of her greatest strengths, it is also her greatest weakness – one, because even at times when she needs to ‘lay low’, she will still go out and heal every injured person in sight whether they want to be healed or not, two, she sometimes forgets about her own well-being and collapses from exhaustion and three, she literally killed an ally of hers with her compassion. However, even though she has such power she is not corrupt and is told to never lose the selfless compassion she has for others. Because of this compassion, at times she will end up forcing the party she’s traveling with to take on new jobs when she sees people suffering. If they don’t need healing, then they need liberation or a task done that cannot be done by them, but by a stronger group such as Brave Vesperia. This is when her selflessness becomes selfishness and she ends up being called out on it as well.

-- Here is a thread that also gives my interpretation of her personality, if that is allowable.

[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: Before the final dungeon

[journal post]:

[It doesn’t take the girl long to figure out how to work the device before she is able to turn it on and speak into it with a cheerful and polite tone.]

Oh, hello everyone. My name is Estellise, and I appear to have been… […kidnapped? That isn’t something one would want to say through a device. Especially if it is a device that connected directly to said kidnappers.] …taken from where I was before I was brought here. [Was that even a way to word it?]

I would like to know where I am, if anyone would be willing to tell me. [Her tone is still polite, unfailingly polite.] In fact, any information on my current whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. [Though, to be completely honest, she’s not even one-hundred percent sure if the device is even on, or sending her voice out to anyone.]

Oh, I hope I’m not just talking to myself. [Like during the times when she thought she was speaking to Repede.

But just in case she indeed wasn’t being silly and simply speaking to herself…]
Also, if anyone knows the whereabouts of Brave Vesperia, that would also be greatly appreciated. I thank you for your time in listening to this.

[third person / log sample]:

That night got her thinking. They were really going into the final battle, weren’t they? That thought scared her a bit and made her nervous. Were they doing the right thing? Did they really have to face Duke? What they were doing was going to change the world and they all believed it was going to be for the better, however she was also well aware that not everyone was going to be happy that their plan involved turning all the Blastia into spirits. What they planned on doing, and if it succeeded meant that the way the world would work would change, even if they believed it was for the better. Yet, the alternative option at the moment was Duke’s plan of sacrificing humanity, and Estelle knew that was not a plan that could go through. Still, the weight of what changes were ahead were heavy on her shoulders. There was also the chance that they may not be able to stop Duke or the Adephagos with what they currently had. No, she mustn’t be so negative. Dwelling on such things would only mean doubting the plans that her and her friends had come up with, and that doubt was the last thing they needed right now.

Yes, right now, they needed to look into the positives. While Aurnion was still a brand new town, the fact that the Empire and Guilds were working together in harmony without the use of the Blastia and built the city with their own efforts, yes, that was proof enough that while there may be some challenges, the world would be just fine. Estelle had that kind of faith in people, and with the correct guidance, they would all be fine. Ioder and Flynn were guiding the Empire from its corrupt path to one were the laws protect all their people, and Harry has taken up his grandfather’s position as the head of the Union. Yes, they were both doing just fine, and she knew it.

However, she was still nervous for the battle that was yet to come. In order for these changes to occur, they had to succeed at either defeating Duke, or persuading him that his plan to sacrifice humanity was not the best one. She understood that he no longer had faith in humans given their treatment of Elucifer, but she also felt that he had to know that viewpoint was wrong, that not all humans were that way! Even when she was still considered a poison, Belius was nothing short of kind to her…even when she had caused her insanity, in which the only way to relieve her was death…Belius was still kind to her. In a way, she had wanted to show that same kindness to Duke, that even though he had been hurt, there were still kind humans out there. Not all people were corrupt. That is where her doubt had truly set in. He never seemed like a bad person as for just a little while he seemed to be their ally, but right now, they could not see eye to eye, thus making the enemies. Still, Estelle could only think that perhaps he was misguided. Shaking her head, she tried to get those thoughts out of her head so she would be able to sleep tonight, and be rested for the battle tomorrow.

Feeling wide awake for now, she grabbed for a book, hoping that would take her mind off of the heavy thoughts and emotions that clouded her mind, yet she found it difficult to focus on the words in front of her. She tried to read this story, to take her mind to a new world, but only found that her eyes were merely glazing over the page. No, attempting to take her mind off of this would only make the current matters worse. What she needed to do was find someone to talk to regarding all of this, regarding her feelings about facing Duke. Rolling out of her bed, she looked around the inn for anyone, but it seemed that none of them were even there. Were they perhaps just as nervous about it as she was? Was feeling this kind of nervousness normal?

Stepping outside, she took a deep breath, taking in that fresh air. That helped clear her mind, if only a little. Looking up towards the sky, she stared at the stars. It was such a beautiful and clear night, that she could hardly believe that there was a threat looming in the sky or the other threat seeking to sacrifice humanity. If anything, the peaceful looking sky gave her hope for that same peace that Brave Vesperia and everyone else wished to seek for humanity and its future. Looking around, she finally spotted Yuri and Repede overseeing a bit of scenery and decided it was best to sort her feelings out regarding the fight ahead with him.
